Question-How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
Hi, I’m Briony and this is music promo to Paramore Decode. This song is taken from their album Brand New Eyes as a bonus track and became the soundtrack to the award wining film Twilight. The song was certified Platinum in the U.S and nominated for a Grammy Award in 2010 for Best Song Written for a Movie.
In order for me to create the best image for my band I looked into other music videos such ones from Avril lavigne and Paramore. These two artists sell on a similar context to what I wanted and both are telling a story as it happens.
I wanted to portray a particular message in my video as well as having the character mime the words and act out her part in the film.
In order for me to create a video that told a story that was apparent to the audience I would have to make it clear that the singer was the same person as the girl acting. Therefore I would have to create two massive contrasting shots as well as keeping the audience interested.
A theme of mine that I wanted to add was including Pop Art related footage. This is why I have close ups of lips mining the words in coloured lipstick. The contrast has been altered so the clip looks more comic like. All of the footage including the girl singing have been altered to make it look more in depth and realistic.
Good lighting was the key, and so when it came to editing I was able to use the contrasting and brightness effect to create the image I wanted.
The setting of my music video had to be very clearly thought out so the audience would understand why that setting and why that weather ECT. A dull gloomy day sets the mood for what is happening inside the video and it builds up the tension for what is going to happen later.
When the girl is spinning around I wanted the audience to feel the way she was feeling, to put themself in her situation of being heart broke.
Where the girl pulls the note out she sees I love you but what is really said is it’s over, the audience should start to feel sorry for the character as the story unfolds.
Working on premier pro I was able to control the lighting and added a rough edge border around the outside of the clips which gives a more dramatic look on the footage and gives more for the audience to view.
There are many flash reactions to what the girl is feeling, in the mirror and in her bedroom reminiscing the time with her boyfriend. This particular clip has been made to look like a sepia motion almost old looking, this sets the dull mood for the film yet emphasising a new side of the video. Displaying to the audience that she girl is in love with the boy.
For my digipak I wanted the audience to see more of the pop art side in the art work. The damask pattern in the background contrasts with the colour of the lips. These two patterns work well and are seen throughout my digipak work. The close ups have been influenced by the famous Marilyn Monroe pose that I founded on my research PowerPoint.
For my advertisement I again wanted the lips to be the main focus in a pop art form. And again this links in with the Marilyn Monroe pose against what should be put on a promoting advertisement. I believe that the advertisement and CD cover both attract the media’s eye and the attention of the public well.
To conclude, through the public feedback and my views I feel as if I have met up the expectations of a professional music video and I have displayed the editing techniques within my video made on premier pro. I feel as if I have used a range of different shots in my video as well as good standard of lip miming. Overall I am very pleased with the outcome.
